To operate in the upstream oil and gas sector, the ability to build and maintain relationships with key clients is integral to the success of the business. DCD Marine Cape Town acknowledges the importance of a proven track record in securing prospective projects and strives to maintain its reputation as a leading shipyard.

DCD Marine Cape Town has successfully been awarded the contract to undertake the special periodic survey (SPS) for the semi-submersible drilling rig, the Saipem Drilling-owned, Scarabeo 7.

"This award is a testament to our overall performance over the past few years. We always aim to provide turnkey solutions to our clients and assure them of our commitment to servicing them. Since the vessel's last visit to Cape Town in 2008, we have gained a wealth of experience which can only work in ours and the client's favour for the upcoming Scarabeo 7 project", says Gerry Klos, General Manager of DCD Marine Cape Town.

The vessel is scheduled to depart Angola and arrive in Cape Town during November/ December later this year. She will be berthed at A-Berth for an approximate duration of 80 days.

The scope of work includes the renewal of ± 200 tons steel, removals and inspection of the thrusters, blasting and coating in various areas. A substantial portion of the workscope will include the fabrication, installation and outfitting of a new accommodation module. In addition, an extensive amount of pipework will be undertaken in various areas onboard the vessel.

Charles Ravells, Senior Project Manager for DCD Marine Cape Town comments, "We are excited at the opportunity afforded to us to service a well-respected client such as Saipem Drilling. As always, we aim to raise the bar in all aspects of our operations in terms of planning, technical capability, productivity and safety performance."
